The little seaside village Kalamaki has with Komo Beach one of the most beautiful long sandy beaches of Crete and is easy to reach by car from Lentas in about 1 hour via a paved road.

For an extended bathing day Komo Beach is perfect with its fine sand. Sun umbrellas and deck chairs are rented but there are also many tamarisks under where you always find shady places.

The village Kalamaki is a quiet alternative to the tourist place Matala. In the numerous taverns at the beach promenade you can eat outstandingly fresh fish.

There is at the southern end of Komo Beach, a historic archaeological site with remains of the ancient settlement Kommos whose exposure is not yet fully completed.

Please note: The beach of Kommos is also a nesting beach for the loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta) and is monitored each year by Archelon, the Sea Turtle Protection Society of Greece. Any nests should not be disturbed, and hatchling turtles should not be "assisted" to the sea.
